Job Description

idverde is the leading provider of “green services” to local authorities and other public bodies in the UK. It has over a thousand employees nationally and is growing fast. Services provided include grounds maintenance in parks and open spaces, cleansing, and landscape construction.

1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To focus on the day to day running of the contract, encompassing the planning of works and managing the performance and delivery through area based teams to the required contract specification. Role includes people management, health & safety conformance and assisting the Contract Manager where necessary to deliver the requirements of the Contract.

 

2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Contract Performance & Delivery

  • Responsible for co-ordinating teams according to contract specifications and workload
  • Focus on work progress and performance, taking prompt action when needed and reporting any irregularities or problems to the Contract Manager
  • Create a positive impression and foster a respectable working relationship and environment with the work force, Clients and third parties
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with Client officers at the appropriate level  to meet  expectations in relation to completed / outstanding /additional work
  • Responsible for maintaining records of all tasks completed utilising the Acorn Job Management system
  • Complete quotes for additional works as and when requested using contract rates
  • Participate in any joint quality inspections and attend weekly contract monitoring meetings as requested by client officers, where approved by the Contract Manager

Relationships

  • Understand the Client’s needs and initiate any feedback.

People Management

  • Focus on managing the performance of contract staff, through regular 121s, team meetings, activity briefings and tool box talks
  • Be respectful of colleagues by giving them the opportunity to discuss their work, problems and aspirations
  • Manage any employee relations issues, utilising support from HR, focusing on parameters of Company policies
  • Adhere to HR processes and procedures
  • Ensure all HR matters are dealt with responsibly and passed to the Contract Manager if necessary
  • Monitor time and attendance and the collation and processing of timesheets for payroll.

Quality, Health & Safety

  • Understand the law relating to Health & Safety and understand and focus on implementing the company’s Health & Safety policy
  • Responsible for understanding and implementing risk assessments and COSHH assessments
  • Ensure colleagues work to risk assessments and COSHH assessments
  • Understand and work with integrity to agreed company procedures, in particular, operating within the Company quality system
  • Responsible for the security of Company buildings, vehicles, machinery and materials
  • Encourage all colleagues to display integrity: wear the correct corporate clothing, keep vehicles and machinery clean and well maintained and that sites are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Responsible for keeping machinery and equipment in good working condition and reporting faults etc. as per Company process, as well as processing logs in relation to mileage and fuel and completion of daily vehicle and plant sheets

Business Development

  • Actively seek out new business and assess prospective contracts, and work collaboratively with the Business Development team
  • Focus on promotion of the company by attending open days, developing networks within the industry, etc.
  • Identify and develop external relationships with organisations to help strengthen the Company profile

Financial Management

  • Understand and focus on operating within the company’s financial procedures
  • Responsible for regularly monitoring progress and reviewing cost and expenditure to ensure that programmes/budgets are met
  • Manage the contract responsibly, according to budget
  • Work collaboratively with the Contract Manager when completing the end of month financial performance sheet

3. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Complete all grounds maintenance activities to contract specification using Acorn
  • Achieve a minimum of a “4” on the bi- annual QA report inclusive of on site, storage and mess facility inspections
  • Keep all machinery and equipment breakdowns to a minimum
  • Keep accidents and other H&S incidents to a minimum by implementing good working practices, training and adhering to company H&S policies
  • Ensure HR processes and procedures are implemented

4. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • An experienced Supervisor with proven work experience in a similar role
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates
  • Full Clean Driving Licence
  • Able to liaise with management at all levels and provide sound technical advice/opinion when requested to do so
  • Ability to challenge clients with professional technical advice when required
  • The ability to train and guide others on horticultural and cleansing practices inclusive of Sports Turf Management, waste collection, and conservation management
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety, its enforcement and ability to impart that knowledge on others inclusive of ROSPA playground inspection requirements
  • Ideally qualified to IOSH level
  • Wide knowledge of all grounds maintenance activities
  • The ability to manage others in the same environment including mechanics and mentor/develop apprentices
